Continuing the Journey: XRPL in Southeast Asia

Flashback #2 — Hanoi Highlights from the XRPL SEA Hackathon Series

Following the energy of our first Builders Breakfast during the XRPL SEA Hackathon 2023, the momentum didn’t stop there. We continued our mission to build a thriving developer and builder community across Asia-Pacific — and Hanoi was our next stop.

What unfolded in Vietnam’s capital city was nothing short of incredible. As one of the region’s emerging Web3 hubs, Hanoi delivered an energetic, thoughtful, and deeply collaborative atmosphere — the perfect setting to push the XRPL ecosystem further into the spotlight in Southeast Asia.

XRPL Hanoi: A Powerful Kickoff for Vietnam’s Web3 Builders

The event marked a significant kickoff moment for XRPL in Vietnam, and the turnout proved that there’s an eager, growing developer community in the region. With builders, students, protocol teams, and community leaders in attendance, this was more than just a hackathon — it was a gathering of minds aligned on the future of blockchain.

From technical sessions and demo showcases to real-time idea pitching and ecosystem exploration, participants immersed themselves in the XRPL tech stack and brainstormed how to build projects with real-world impact.

Collaboration at the Core

This incredible event wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our partners. A massive thank you to our co-host, Aura Network, a team that has been instrumental in nurturing Vietnam’s Web3 growth through community and infrastructure. Their local leadership and insights helped shape the entire experience.

We’re also grateful to Ripple (RippleX) for powering this series. Their dedication to supporting developer education, innovation, and decentralized finance use cases is what makes this regional movement possible. Together, we’re creating more opportunities for XRPL to thrive in the APAC region.

Key Themes and Learnings from Hanoi

Here are a few highlights that made Hanoi stand out:

1. Local Talent, Global Vision

It was inspiring to see young developers and university teams engaging with real use cases — many of which addressed local financial or social challenges. The blend of local relevance with global protocol potential is what made these ideas stand out.

2. Developer Education Is Key

Many attendees shared that the hands-on workshops and XRPL technical walkthroughs were their first deep dive into XRPL’s capabilities. From issuing tokens to building on-chain applications, education remains the key to long-term adoption — and events like these help bridge that gap.

3. Building for Impact

A recurring theme among pitches was the desire to build solutions that actually matter: tools for cross-border remittances, transparent donations, sustainable identity models, and more. This wasn’t hype-driven building. It was purpose-driven prototyping.

What Comes Next?

The Hanoi stop was just one chapter in the XRPL SEA Hackathon series — and this journey is far from over. At APAC DAO, we believe that ecosystems grow not just from protocols, but from people: developers, designers, thinkers, and doers who collaborate openly and build boldly.

We’re proud to be continuing this initiative across Southeast Asia, bringing together global infrastructure and local creativity to unlock the next wave of decentralized applications.

So what’s next? More hackathons. More workshops. More community connections. And more stories like Hanoi — where the local meets global to shape the decentralized future.

To everyone who joined us in Hanoi: thank you. Your energy and ideas are the fuel for everything we’re building. We can’t wait to meet more of you across the region as we continue to activate the builder spirit in Southeast Asia and beyond.
